Band: Paradoxx
Album: Contamination
Label: Cold Fusion Music
Tracks: 13

Paradoxx has been a band that's been around for a long time and it was about time they'd let a bunch of other artists remix their tracks and whack it on a silver disc.
But, the album is a bit more than just a remix album, but i'll get to that later.

  1. The album starts with Atomika, remixed by Vince Guzzardo of Cesium_137. I like the original, but Vince took the song and made it sound fatter and deeper, more powerful i'd almost want to say.
  2. The second track, Vampyr, was remixed by the Echoing Green, now there's a surprize! Not because tEG has done a remix because they do that all the time, but because this mix sounds a lot more raw, dark and EBM-like than you are accustomed of hearing from the Echoing Green.
  3. Track 3 is Submission which Chiasm has taken the liberty to redecorate. In its original form, Submission is one of my favorite Paradoxx tracks but the remixer has added a very busy beat. Imagine a Jungle beat but slowed down to 50%. It's one of those "love it or hate it" remixes.
  4. Eupho Spug took care of Mysterious and turned it into a laid-back, yet dark sounding track. I don't know what Eupho Spug's regular genre is but i do think that for a remix, this one turned out pretty well.
  5. Then it's Regenerator's turn, they took Radium Lover and clearly left their stamp on it. If you didn't know any better, you'd have thought that it had always been a Regenerator track.
  6. Subkon did a remix of Romantic but i am not very impressed with it, they've just added a different beat, slowed down the vocals and kept it all pretty bare, or basic if you prefer. To me, it sounds uninspired and that's a shame really.
  7. Colossal Spin is also still around and they prove it by submitting the track Teknologi for this album. At first glance this version sounded like nothing special, but after hearing the track a couple of times i've noticed details that i didn't hear the first time. This makes it an interesting track after all.
  8. Track eight is the Dead Agent mix of Alien by Dead Agent. This mix too is pretty basic but you can hear that a lot more effort went into this mix than in the other one that i called basic. It is not one of my most favorite mixes, but it's still a decent one and it's dancey too.
  9. Static:Soul is a band that i hadn't heard much of lately, but apparently they are still at it and they've made a great version of New Devotion. Words that come to mind to describe this mix are gritty, aggressive and dark. Just the way i know Static:Soul.
  10. Creta did the second remix of Vampyr. This version is more down-tempo than the original version, making it sound more brooding and dark. The synths that Creta chose add to this feeling. Add to this Rick Joyce's signature guitars and the atmosphere is complete.

I said that this album is a bit more than just a remix album, i'm getting to that now:
  11. Did you ever wonder what Paradoxx would have sounded like if they didn't use synths? Paradoxx did, obviously, because they have included an acoustic version of Atomica. Technically, this is not a remix but another version of the same track by the band themselves, still, i like this addition to the album.
  12. Paradoxx also included their own remix of Godless Happiness by the Jet Circus. I like how this one turned out, though it does sound a bit awkward hearing a metal singer in an electro track. Imagine how The Cult would have sounded if they were an electro band.
  13. The very last track is Witch Hunt by Templar, remixed by Templar which is Ralph Dix's rock-oriented solo project. I don't know the original track but i like this mix, even though it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the album.

My overall conclusion is that this remix album is pretty well balanced, the order of the tracks has been well thought out and the overall quality of the remixes leaves little to desire. One of the things that i like best about this album is that both secular as well as Christian remixers are featured on this album, which should make this one a must-have for Christians and non-Christians alike.
