Editor's description: One of the first bands i started listening to when i became interested in gothic music was Saviour Machine. I remember reading Eric Clayton's thoughts on the scene in an article from HM magazine. I went down to my somewhat local Christian music store (which is about an hour or so from where i live) and picked up 3 of what would turn out to be very important albums.
The first was AP2, the next two were the black cased Saviour Machine albums Legend I and Legend II. As i recall, when i popped the second Legend CD into my player i had all the hopes that it was some industrialized Marilyn Manson copy band. I was at the moment very disapointed. Right as i thought i had bought a CD i would not listen to probably ever again, i heard something in this music i recognized. Something from my past. It was dark, yes. But it was like opera, like Pink Floyd's The Wall, my favorite album. I carefully listened to the rest of the album and to the first. Soon i was sucked in, i loved this new, passionate music i was listening to.

Saviour Machine's music is the epitome of Christian Goth. That's really all there is to it. Its dark, sometimes heavy, always melodic. Very beautiful lyrics, vocals and layering. The guitars range from doom metal chugs to middle eastern wailings. Songs of the early albums are of the typical Goth persuasion with very holy overtones that coincide evenly with the music. Nothing clashes, there is no guy screaming in a shrill voice "Jesus makes me so happy". This all fits together wonderfully.
The most impressive albums by Saviour Machine are the Legend Series. These albums chronicle the end of the age as written in the book of Revelations. The songs flow together with dark passage that engulf the listener and take them to this place not so far away. The songs glorify God and speak of the devil and his hordes taking over the lost world. These albums have made me weep countless times, they touch such a sensitive part of your soul. Truly amazing.
